Naples Unit of INO is located in the Research Area 'Napoli 3' in Pozzuoli (near Naples), Italy
The Unit was established in 2000 as the first branch laboratory of the former 'Istituto Nazionale di Ottica Applicata' (INOA) in Florence. Subsequently, the Unit settled in what is its present location in the building of the old 'Olivetti' typewriters factory. In 2005, INOA joined CNR and recovered the original name, Istituto Nazionale di Ottica (INO).
Today, there are about 15 researchers in Pozzuoli, incuding permanent research scientists, post-docs, and PhD students, supported by technical and administrative staff. The activities at INO Naples concentrate on different aspects of atomic, molecular and optical physics such as novel laser sources, quantum and nonlinear optics, cooling of molecules, high-precision and high-sensitivity spectroscopy, whispering-gallery-mode resonators, plasmonic and fiber optic sensing.
